Denny James Keil

There is never a dull moment with Denny around, drummer, backing vocalist and prolific talker, on and off the stage. He’s a whirlwind of noise and untamed comedy who keeps everyone on their toes.

Denny’s been banging away on the drums since he was old enough to hold a stick. A stick that's been passed down through generations of his talented family, imbued with the magic of rock 'n' roll and a healthy dose of crazy. He was always destined to follow in their footsteps and by the age of 5 he was performing on stage alongside his musical brother, already formulating his dreams. He’s a testament to the power of creative heritage.

Drawing inspiration from The Beatles, Oasis, Foo Fighters and Genesis he’s a cross between Keith Moon and a possessed chimpanzee. He plays with every ounce of energy he’s got, always with an enthusiastic grin on his face. Mid performance, he’s been known to lose those sticks and even his glasses.

Even though he’s usually positioned at the back of the stage, he’s front and centre when it comes to commanding attention. The audience just can’t get enough of him. Denny is most definitely a crowd pleaser and if you ever come to see the band, you’ll be in for a wild ride.

Despite all of that chaos, his drumming is astonishingly good and when he’s able to, he harmonises into the mic to turn a good night into something special.

He’s always unpredictable and unfiltered but very loveable with it. His sense of humour is sharp, often brutal, but it’s how he shows he cares about you. You never know what he’s going to do next but you DO know that it will be loud and unforgettable. A true rock ‘n’ roll wild child and we’re lucky to have him.

Next on Monumental’s shopping list is a spare drum kit……just in case.
